29-Year-Old Mansfield Timberview Coach Dies Suddenly

MANSFIELD (1080 KRLD) - A 29-year old teacher and assistant varsity football coach at Timberview High School in Mansfield has died.  Cody McCarty is believed to have suffered a heart attack on Sunday.

Richie Escovedo, a spokesman for the Mansfield School District, says counselors are at the high school today.

McCarty was the team's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

The athletic department has not decided whether to continue football practice today or the rest of the week.

McCarty, a native of Bishop, played tight end at TCU from 2001 until 2004.

The NFL's San Diego Chargers signed McCarty in 2005, but the team cut him during training camp. Mansfield ISD says the funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Walnut Ridge Baptist Church, at 1201 SH 360.
