Former Teacher's Aide Charged With Child Sexual Assault
NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A former North Texas high school teacher's aide has been charged with Sexual Assault of a Child.
Juan Clemente Silvas is accused of sexually assaulting a female Kennedale High School student. Silvas previously worked at Kennedale High and came to know the 16-year-old there.
Arlington police spokesperson Tiara Ellis Richard explained that, "The man [Silvas] was not employed by the school at the time of the offense, he'd resigned to start a new job."
While Silvas and the student both had contact at the school the alleged offense happened in the city of Arlington.
According to authorities, the mother of the teenager contacted them on December 2 and police began an investigation. A few days later detectives made contact with Silvas, who had started a new job as a counselor at a Dallas high school, and asked if they could speak with him. Silvas agreed and met with Arlington investigators.
"After interviewing him, and speaking with him, and gathering the information they [detectives] needed, they arrested him," Richard said.
Silvas, 25, was booked into jail on December 4, posted $3,500 bail and was released that same day.
Arlington authorities did not charge Silvas with Improper Relationship Between a Student and Teacher because he was not working for any school at the time of the alleged offense. Richard said his employer at the time of his arrest was contacted. "Once taken into custody the school was notified of that arrest and charge."
Arlington police say there are no indications that there are any other victims.
