22-Year-Old Accused Of Driving Car Into Crowd Outside Bar

PLANO (CBSDFW.COM) - There were some scary moments in front of a Plano bar on Thursday. Police say a driver plowed into a group of people leaving The Hang Out Patio Bar, along northbound Central Expressway near Parker Road.

Four people, who worked at the bar, were standing in the parking when a white-colored sedan slammed into them.

According to investigators, it was Benjamin Kevin Newman who drove into the parking lot and hit the employees with his car. The 22-year-old then allegedly fled from the scene, but was soon located and taken into custody.

There were still crime scene markings, indicating where the crash happened, in front of the bar Friday.

Two of the people injured were rushed to an area hospital: one with serious injuries and one with life threatening injuries.

The two other victims received minor injuries and were treated at the scene by paramedics.

Newman has been charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Accident Involving Injury. Investigators indicated those charges could be upgraded by Monday.

A CBS 11 News crew tried to talk to employees at the bar Friday, but the manager said they are not commenting.

Efforts were also made to speak with suspect Benjamin Newman's family, but information was relayed that they too had no comment.
