21 Best Rangers Ever: John Wetteland

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - If you go to the Rangers Hall of Fame behind the Home Run Porch at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, you will find memorabilia of the 13 men enshrined in the team's place of honor.  For former relief pitcher John Wetteland, you will find a sweat stained faded red cap that he wore during his first season in Arlington.  The hat is a great symbol of Wetteland's performance on the field, with you through thick and thin.

Wetteland will probably be best remembered in baseball lore for being named the 1996 World Series MVP as a member of the New York Yankees.  His performance against the Atlanta Braves, wearing another stained and weathered cap in the late against the defending champs, saved games 3-6 and helped restart the Yankees dynasty.

He signed with the Rangers that winter and quickly proved himself to be an effective closer in Ranger Red for the next four seasons, retiring in 2000.  Wetteland is the Rangers all-time leader in saved games with 150, and had 330 saves over his career.
