21 Best Rangers Ever: Alex Rodriguez
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - There are players whose time in a Rangers uniform will be remembered positively, others whose time will be looked upon with indifference, then, there is Alex Rodriguez.
You can argue about his desire to want to be in Arlington during the 2001-2003 seasons, but you can't argue about how good of a player A-Rod actually was as a Ranger.
Rodriguez was the go-to shortstop for the Rangers, playing in all 161 games of 2001 and setting MLB records with the most home runs by a shortstop with 52. In 2002 he led the team and the league at the plate and on the field, getting a gold glove and the Sporting News player of the year award.
But his final season in Arlington will be the one that set him apart, His numbers at the plate and in the infield earned him the American League MVP award, a big feat despite the fact the Rangers finished last in the AL West.
Rodriguez's big money is what eventually led to his trade after the 2003 season, but while he was here he was one of the best there was and the best in baseball. So for his work at the plate and at short, A-Rod will now be known as the 12th best Ranger Ever.
