2014 U.S. Open Odds: McIlroy The Favorite
PINEHURST, N.C. (CBSDFW.COM) -- There's only one certainty heading into Thursday's opening round of the 2014 U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2 -- Tiger Woods will not win it.
Tiger will miss his second consecutive major championship while recovering from back surgery in March.
But the list of favorites is not short of star-power, as Rory McIlroy, world No.1 Adam Scott, and Phil Mickelson are among the likely champions.
McIlroy captured his first major championship at the US Open in 2011, an 8-shot victory over Jason Day at Congressional. Scott enjoyed his best finish at the 2012 U.S. Open (2nd).
And Mickelson, a five-time major championship winner, has yet to capture a U.S. Open, finishing as the runner-up a record six times.
