MCKINNEY (CBSDFW.COM) - Three people died Saturday during a midair plane collision in McKinney, and two of them have since been identified as authorities continue to investigate the incident. Those men have definitively been identified as Greg Barber, 55, and his 18-year-old son Tim.

Keith Clifton said that he knew the father and son well, as his friendship with Greg Barber spans three decades.

"He was an extremely accomplished pilot. It's an accident. They call it that for a reason," explained Clifton. "A plane just won't fly without his tail. He got clipped by the other plane. It's a tragedy for everyone on that."

Clifton said that Tim Barber was on Christmas break from the Air Force Academy. He also added that the father and son from Farmersville were very close and lived every minute of their lives to the fullest.

"At the end of the day, the story of love. They were doing what they love," stated Clifton. "They love their community and their family, their country."

"It's just really hard. They were just really wonderful people," added family friend Diana Galvan. "It's just tragic."

The National Transportation Safety Board has since become involved with the crash investigation, as officials try to determine what could have caused the two planes to hit each other in the air.
