2 Suspects Arrested In Frisco Walmart Shooting
FRISCO (CBSDFW.COM/AP) - Police have arrested two suspects for the murder of a man who was found shot inside of his car outside of a Walmart store in Frisco on Wednesday night. The suspects, identified as 17-year-old Daniel James Ramsour and 20-year-old Raymond Anthony Washington, both from McKinney, were taken into custody early Friday morning in Beaumont.
The incident happened at about 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday night in the parking lot of a new Walmart store in Frisco, located in the 8500 block of Preston Road. The store is only two weeks old, and featured modern surveillance that helped police in tracking down the two suspects.
Authorities believe that the victim, identified as 30-year-old Andre Lang Currier, knew the two suspects, and may have been involved in a drug transaction with them when he was shot and killed. The suspects both fled the scene before police arrived.
Currier was driving a black Mercedes, where he was found injured when authorities were investigating the scene. He later died at the hospital. Another man was seen getting out of the car, running through the Walmart store, and setting off a fire alarm by escaping out of a backdoor. That man was the victim's friend who was with him at the time of the shooting and will not be identified by the police.
Ramsour and Washington were both found at a home in Beaumont on Friday morning, after a vehicle registered to one of the suspect was spotted outside of the residence. Both being charged with first-degree felony murder. Bond has been set at $500,000 for each suspect. Police have no record of either man having an attorney.
The shooting took place at a very busy location, during a high-traffic time of day. Officers with the Frisco Police Department and the Texas Rangers were able to interview several witnesses about the case. "I'm proud of how hard everyone's been working as a team to solve this crime," said Frisco police chief Todd Renshaw in an written news release, "and hope that this will put people at ease who live near where the shooting occurred."
Indeed, a neighborhood sits directly behind the new Walmart store. Mike Riccio stumbled upon the police investigation near his home. "I was driving in the neighborhood and saw police cruisers checking out the neighborhood," Riccio recalled. "There were a couple of residents that saw a person fleeing in their backyard, but they were not apprehended."
Many of the neighborhood's residents actually fought against having the retail giant open a store so close to their homes, fearing an uptick in crime. Up until now, Riccio said, the Walmart store has been a good neighbor – but it has only been about two weeks. "I think this was a random incident that I hope won't happen again."
