2 People Shot Outside Pappadeaux Restaurant In Duncanville
DUNCANVILLE (CBSDFW.COM) - The search for a gunman continues after an overnight shooting at a crowded restaurant in Duncanville. The suspect opened fire near a patio area at the Pappadeaux Restaurant just off Highway 67.
According to police, there was some type of a disturbance inside just before 10 o'clock Monday night. At some point three men went outside the restaurant, onto the patio, and one of them pulled out a gun and opened fire.
"Five or six shots, really close together...Chaos. People started screaming, running, crawling. It was crazy," said Alicia Davis, who said she dove under the table instead of running.
"I was trying to look around and my husband jumped on top of me and kept telling me to keep my head down," she said.
When she finally got a chance to run, the nursing student did so in the direction of one of the injured customers.
"I went into nurse mode and put a tourniquet around the guy's arm... I used a napkin, a cloth napkin," she said.
Investigators believe the incident was rooted in some type of domestic dispute. "There was a bigger group inside, but the group of the three males knew each other from the information that we're gathering," explained Officer Doug Sisk, a spokesperson with the Duncanville Police Department. "Exactly what the relationships were I don't know that. We just have determined that they knew each other from being inside the restaurant."
The shooter then drove away with a woman inside the vehicle.
When police arrived they found two people shot. Both victims were taken to Methodist Dallas Medical Center. Late Wednesday morning police told CBS 11 News that one of the victims had to undergo emergency surgery and that both were currently hospitalized and stable.
Officer Sisk said, "There were two victims that were shot. One of them was shot once at least. The other one was shot multiple times."
The restaurant and bar was full of people celebrating Fat Tuesday. When the gunfire rang out people inside began running and trying to find shelter. "At that point and time it was mass chaos inside Pappadeaux's... everybody fleeing, running over, knocking down waitresses and everything else," said Sisk.
Police say they don't have a good description of the shooter, the woman he fled with or the vehicle he was driving.
There are surveillance cameras at the restaurant and investigators say they will review that footage to see if the gunman and the shooting were caught on tape.
Duncanville police are asking that anyone at the restaurant who may have seen something or anyone with information about to the shooter call the police department at 972.223.6111.
