GARLAND (CBS 11 NEWS) - Garland Police are sending out a strong word of caution to motorists after dangerous debris has pierced through windshields on the highway and seriously injured two drivers on separate occasions.

The first incident was on October 16th, and it happened to Jorge Cervantes on Interstate-635 near Laprada in Garland.

He and his co-worker were heading home when a refrigerant canister came flying through the windshield of the truck he was riding in and knocked him out.

He says, "The thought of my family is what kept me alive. I didn't want to die."

A similar incident happened on October 24 along I-30 near Broadway Boulevard. A Wake Village man was hit in the head when a metal leaf spring came loose. The piece of metal pierced his windshield and struck him. That man, who has not been identified, is still in a coma at Baylor Hospital.
