2 People Dead After Dallas Apartment Shooting

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Two people are dead after an assailant burst into an apartment in southwest Oak Cliff and opened fire. The incident happened at about midnight at the Artisan Ridge Apartments, located in the 5400 block of Preakness Lane, and the attack was done with children inside of the home.

According to police, a person knocked on the apartment door. When a woman inside answered the knock, she was immediately shot. The assailant then went to the back of the apartment to shoot and kill a man. Two children -- both under age 10 -- were also inside, but neither of those kids were hurt during the fatal attack. Officials on the scene have not said if the kids saw or heard any of the violence.

The children are both now safe with their grandmother.

The woman was identified as 32-year-old Venora Cranford. She was taken to Methodist Dallas Medical Center and pronounced dead about an hour later. The deceased man has been identified as 24-year-old Jimmon Jackson. Family members said that he was Cranford's boyfriend.

Authorities have also not yet released any information about a suspect or a motive. Two people have been detained by police for questioning, but no arrests have been made. Investigators are continuing to canvas the area.
