DALLAS (CBSNewsTexas.com) — Two firefighters were hospitalized after an early morning fire in North Dallas Thursday.

At 4:37 a.m. March 16, Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to a structure fire call at the old Valley View Center on Preston Road.

When first responders arrived at the abandoned shopping center, they came across heavy smoke and fire inside the main entrance. Firefighters then requested a second alarm due to the size of the building and after noticing multiple other spot fires.

During their operation, a firefighter became trapped by flames and was quickly rescued; However, officials said they sustained undisclosed burn injuries and were subsequently hospitalized.

Another firefighter was also injured, but officials said the injury was of the "musculoskeletal variety." They have since been discharged to go home.

Officials said neither of the firefighters' injuries are life threatening and that the cause of the fire remains undetermined.
