2 Enter Guilty Pleas After Plane Wreck Foils Plan
LUBBOCK (AP) — Two people whose plan to sell more than 160 pounds of marijuana was revealed when their small plane crashed earlier this year have entered guilty pleas in federal court in West Texas.
Dorothea Cangelosi of Waller, Texas, and pilot Gregory Thomas of Sacramento, Calif., each pleaded guilty Friday to charges that include possession with intent to distribute.
Prosecutors say the two were flying April 30 from Sacramento to Houston in a Beechcraft Bonanza when they stopped to refuel at an airport in Plains, near the New Mexico state line. They encountered engine trouble as they departed, causing the plane to flop into a field beyond the runway.
The 50-year-old Thomas and the 66-year-old Cangelosi tried to hide the drugs but were discovered.
Each faces a sentence of 20 years in prison.
