Delay In Arrival Of Undocumented Children To Rockwall County

ROCKWALL COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - It was first believed that hundreds of unaccompanied and undocumented children would be arriving in North Texas today, but officials with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services have confirmed that it will be at least Saturday and possibly Sunday before the youngsters will get to Rockwall County.
When they arrive, Sabine Creek Ranch will be the temporary home to some 100 undocumented children from Central America. Another 100 kids are expected to arrive at the ranch days later.
Officials say the arriving children will be between 12 and 18-years-old. According to Health and Human Services, they'll spend about three weeks in North Texas and then will be placed with an American sponsor. It's all part of going through the immigration process.
Each child must have completed a medical screening before arriving in North Texas, and they will not attend public schools.
Crews in Rockwall County spent the overnight hours making final preparations. Security in and around the ranch has also been beefed up.
The federal government has allocated $12.9 million to house the teenagers at Sabine Creek and at a second facility in Ellis County. The money will pay for operational and medical staffing, mental health services and local law enforcement security.
