ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Arlington police are releasing more information about what lead to the murder of Michael Hartley, 18. He was found dead in his backyard Saturday morning after a homeowner called police.
Authorities said Hartley was at a party the night before and exchanged words with someone there. When he and others left, officer Chris Cook with police said Hartley noticed someone was following him.
"They didn't want to continue to their cousins house, so they stopped in that neighborhood to confront whoever was following them. So someone in one of those vehicles is our shooter."
He said despite the fact that Hartley was shot several times, he was able to scale a fence and hide in the backyard where he was eventually found.
Cook has asked residents in the area to check video surveillance systems between the hours of 1-4 a.m. Saturday morning, to see if it captured an SUV followed by two to three passenger sedans.
