18-Wheeler Crashes Into Sheep Hauler In Dallas
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - One person is dead and two others have been injured after an 18-wheeler slammed into a truck hauling sheep. The crash happened around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday morning in Oak Cliff, in the northbound lanes of Interstate-35E near Saner Avenue.
According to the Dallas County Sheriff's Office, a pickup truck was carrying a trailer with three sheep inside. That vehicle jacknifed on the wet highway. The 18-wheeler came over a rise without seeing the stalled out truck and was unable to stop in time. The pickup truck was hit on the passenger side.
The animal trailer is registered to the McKinney Independent School District.
The deceased victim was identified as 43-year-old Regina Duane of McKinney. The other two victims – ages 15 and 26 – were taken to Methodist Hospital in Oak Cliff in critical condition. All three victims were women and riding in the pickup truck.
The driver of the 18-wheeler is not hurt, but was taken for a state-mandated blood draw. It is not known if he will face charges. The 18-wheeler belongs to Freymiller Transportation in Oklahoma City. They have not returned requests for more information about the truck or the driver.
Traffic investigators were on the scene and had closed off the highway for some time on Tuesday morning, but a few lanes were opened once again for the morning's rush hour.
