16-Year-Old Boy Drowns In McKinney Country Club Pond
MCKINNEY, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) - A 16-year-old boy died Tuesday evening after he drowned at a country club in McKinney.
He was identified Wednesday afternoon by McKinney Police as Aaron Hill.
McKinney North High football coach Mike Fecci said he met with his players Wednesday to share the sad news.
He told CBS 11, Hill played junior varsity last year and would have been varsity this year.
He said he was a great kid.
The McKinney Fire Department responded to the drowning call around 8 p.m. at The Ranch Golf Course at Stonebridge Country Club.
Officials say several teenagers were swimming in one of the ponds on the golf course when one of them started to struggle before going underwater.
Crews were able to pull the boy's body out of the water and pronounced him dead.
The club's general manager told CBS 11 News that the kids were swimming in a pond where "No Swimming" signs are posted.
The country club released a statement that said, in part -
"Our priority is for the families impacted by this horrible tragedy. Our thoughts and deepest sympathy go out to those affected. While we have very little information to share, we are fully cooperating with authorities on their investigation."
The family has set up a GoFundMe account to help pay for Hill's funeral.
