13-Year-Old Garland Girl Gets Wish To Join Army

FORT JACKSON, S.C. (AP) - A 13-year-old Texas girl with cystic fibrosis is getting a chance to join the Army at Fort Jackson as part of a Make-a-Wish visit.

Fort Jackson spokesman Pat Jones says Alyssa Braden of Garland, Texas, is visiting the Army's largest training installation on Monday because she has always wanted to be among people in the armed services and considers them heroes.

Braden was getting the chance to see how soldiers train and perform out in the field. She was spending several days on post to get a chance to eat military rations out in the field and ride in a military Humvee.

The Texas teen's visit was being supported by the Make-a-Wish Foundation. She is being accompanied by members of her family.
