13-Year-Old Arrested For Murder Of Missing 5-Year-Old
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Thursday afternoon police in Fort Worth confirmed that not only had they identified and arrested a suspect in the murder a missing boy found dead on Wednesday, but that the suspect is only 13-years-old.
Five-year-old Sida Osman went missing from the Weber Garden Apartments Tuesday evening.
Thursday afternoon Sida's family members gathered outside in the apartment complex. The family told CBS 11 News they are still in shock over Sida' s death and now can't believe someone so young committed the murder.
After an exhaustive search, late Tuesday night and Wednesday, that included helicopters, police dogs, and officers on horseback, police would only say that the body of a young African American had been found. The body was behind a vacant house in the 4800 block of Lois, just two blocks away from the Weber Garden apartments.
Fort Worth police did not verify the body was that of Sida Osman until Thursday, after the Tarrant County Medical Examiners Office made a positive identification.
According to Fort Worth officials, while speaking with detectives several people kept referring to the same 13-year-old African American male. After further investigation, Fort Worth police say they learned Sida and the 13-year-old suspect were seen together going into the backyard of the house on Lois.
Police believe at some point the 13-year-old became irritated with Sida and hit the little boy in the head several times, killing him.
Sida's mother, Dahabo Abdi, said she has no idea who the suspect is. He died and my son don't do [sic] nothing," she said. "He [was] a good boy."
Benjamin Clark lives near the vacant house where Sida's body was found. "When the detective came into our house he said he found some evidence, like a bowling ball or something somebody threw in our backyard," he explained. "I was kind of surprised."
Police won't say if the bowling ball was used to kill Sida, but community leaders told CBS 11 News it had something to do with the boy's death.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's report lists Sida Osman's death as a homicide, caused by "blunt force head injuries."
The 13-year-old suspect, whose name and photo are not being released because he is a juvenile, was arrested on a Capital Murder warrant and taken into custody without incident.
