DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - The Dallas Independent School District will not be asking for a tax hike this November.

DISD Trustrees voted to maintain the current tax rate with board president Dr. Lew Blackburn casting the swing vote. Six votes were needed (a super majority) to pass a resolution asking taxpayers to ratify an increased tax rate.

Trustees Miguel Solis, Erwin Flores, Dustin Marshall, Dan Micche, and Jaime Resendez voted in support of the Tax Ratification Election. Trustees Bernadette Nutall, Joyce Foreman, Audrey Pinkerton, and Blackburn all opposed.

Blackburn told trustees there were just too many unanswered questions and too much of a rush.

The election in November could have raised property taxes in the district by 13 cents and would have brought the district a little more than $100 million to fund early childhood education and early college high school programs.

Blackburn said that he wouldn't be opposed to revisiting the issue, as long as there was a more focused plan.

A $1.6 billion DISD bond package was approved in 2015 by voters.
