114 Partially Reopen Following Afternoon Tanker Fire
ROANOKE (AP/CBSDFW.COM) - Part of State Highway 114 in Roanoke has reopened after a collision between a Jeep and a tanker truck carrying jet fuel left smoke billowing into the North Texas sky.
The accident Tuesday afternoon on State Highway 114 in Roanoke, about 30 miles northwest of Dallas, initially closed lanes in both directions. But by Tuesday evening, a Roanoke police dispatcher said westbound lanes were reopened.
Lt. Douglas Parks of the Roanoke fire department says the passenger in the Jeep was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The truck driver walked away from the fiery wreck without injuries.
Parks says after extinguishing a grassfire caused by burning truck, officials were letting the fuel burn off. The tanker was carrying 5,600 gallons of jet fuel.
The truck is owned by a helicopter company named Central Copter out of Belgrade, Montana. The company is working with local crews to try and determine how to move the wreckage away from the highway.
