10-Year-Old Bike Rider Recovering After Car Strikes Him Outside School
WYLIE, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) - A 10-year-old boy who was hit by a car as he rode his bike by school is recovering.
It happened around 7:45 a.m. Wednesday outside Harrison Intermediate School in Wylie.
Police said when first responders arrived, the child was conscious and alert.
The initial investigation showed the victim was riding his bike "through a crosswalk of a parking lot" when a car leaving the lot hit him.
"We would like to remind drivers to be mindful of children near schools, bus stops, sidewalks and throughout your neighborhoods. Officers are also out enforcing school zone violations," said Wylie Police in the news release.
Wylie EMS took the child to a local hospital where he was said to be in good condition.
The driver of the vehicle was cited for No Driver's License and Failure to Yield Right of Way Exiting Private Drive.
In another part of town, not far from where the 10-year-old was struck, an 8-year-old suffered the same fate.
He was hit while in a construction zone at Northwest Highway and Birchwood Drive in Garland.
The Garland Fire Department said the boy complained of head and neck pain but haven't said whether or not he was hospitalized.
Both incidents remain under investigation.
