Suspect Dead In Arlington Officer-Involved Shooting

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - A suspect is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Arlington Saturday afternoon.

Police say the incident started off as a domestic disturbance in the 2100 block of Park Springs. Officers arrived at the apartment complex for a fight between two brothers.

According to police, the caller told them the man inside pulled a knife and a gun on his friend. When officers arrived, they got the people inside the home out to safety, but the suspect was seen putting on body armor and had a gun.

Police say the suspect somehow escaped the apartment and ran on foot where he eventually ran into Gabriel in his car.

"I see a gentleman running towards me dressed in black, bald head. He had a bulletproof vest on. Black pants, black long-sleeved shirt," said Gabriel. "All I see was a gun and he pointed the gun at me and told me to get out of the car."

After stealing the car, police say the suspect lost control of it at the 3800 block of Shady Valley where he hit a curb and hopped out of the vehicle.

Lt. Chris Cook of the Arlington Police Department says the suspect tried to enter other homes after stopping. "We're not going to allow him to gain entry to another residence. We're not going to allow him to carjack another innocent person," he said.

Lt. Cook says an officer commanded the suspect to drop his gun. He says there was an encounter between that officer and the suspect which led the officer to fatally shoot the suspect.

Lt. Cook says he doesn't have specific details but insists the suspect forced the encounter. "No police obviously comes to work and wants to be involved in a situation like this," he said.

No officers were injured during the incident.

Police are now checking toxicology results and are trying to figure out what led to the initial disturbance.

The name of the suspect has not been released, but police say officers have had prior contacts with the man in the past.
