1 Dead After SUV Crashes Into Dallas House

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - One person was killed when the driver of an SUV crashed into the back of a Dallas house.

The incident happened on Carissa Drive at Jupiter Road, around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Witnesses said the driver was may have been going as fast as 70 mph when he ran a red light and smashed through a fence, knocked a tree down in the yard and crashed into the house.

The crash killed the passenger sitting in the front seat of the vehicle, later identified as 19-year-old Humberto Najera.

Police said the driver, who was taken to Baylor Hospital in serious condition, is being charged with criminally negligent homicide.

Another passenger in the vehicle ran from the scene and was later caught and taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Police say a mother and her four children, all sleeping inside the home at the time of the crash, were not injured.
