1 Dead, 3 Hurt In Wise County Plane Crash

SPRINGTOWN (CBSDFW.COM) -  Three people injured in a private plane crash in Wise County Sunday evening are still in the hospital.

Investigators say 45-year-old Stephen Dauenhauer was killed when the single engine plane crashed and burned as it was attempting to land at a small airfield near his home.

Dauenhauer's 19-year-old son, Colby, survived and was taken by air ambulance to Dallas' Parkland hospital, along with two family friends.

Colby was listed in good condition Monday afternoon.  19-year-old Brianne Jarvis, and her father, Jason, both passengers on the plane, were listed in critical condition.

Friends say as word spread of the crash, community members gathered at the school stadium to pray for both families late Sunday night.

Dauenhauer is well known and well regarded in the Springtown area, with friends taking to Facebook after the crash to post comments like: "He truly lived life like no other," he "accomplished more in his 45 years than most men could in 200," and "I never heard him say a [an] unkind word towards another person."

"He's made a big impact on this town and just a huge, huge impact on the kids," says Jennifer Smith of Springtown. "His family is very well known and very loved here in this town."

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash.
