The victims were walking just before 3 a.m., in the 900 block of West Lake Street, when a red truck pulled up and five armed males exited and demanded their property, police said.
The ages of the victims range from 16 to 60.
Arriving deputies located a Chevrolet Silverado that had caught fire.
One of the offenders then punched and kicked the victim as he fell to the ground.
Daeshawn Hill, 21, of Chicago, was charged with one felony count of first-degree murder.
Following an extensive search of the hotel, one person of interest was taken into custody.
Responding officers met with a married couple who told them they were robbed of personal property by two armed male black offenders dressed in dark clothing while walking to their car, police said.

Jaylan Jackson, 18, and Dangelo Jackson, 21, were charged with four felony counts of armed robbery. Dangelo received an additional charge of having narcotics.
