Jason Allen

Jason Allen is a CBS News correspondent based in Dallas/Fort Worth.

He was most recently an investigative reporter and anchor for CBS News Texas in Dallas-Fort Worth. He has contributed live reporting for CBS News for numerous hurricanes and severe weather events, including Hurricane Harvey in Texas and major storms in Florida, Louisiana, and California. He has also reported for CBS News from the Texas-Mexico border. 

During the pandemic, his work revealing the emerging fentanyl crisis earned him an award from the Texas Medical Association. Based in Fort Worth, he covered the murder of Atatiana Jefferson from her shooting death through to the end of the trial of the police officer who killed her. He was one of the first reporters live at the scene of the West fertilizer plant explosion in 2013.  

Before joining CBS News, Allen's work covering the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico for WFTV in Orlando, Florida, including traveling to Alaska for lessons from the Exxon Valdez disaster, earned him a Suncoast Emmy award. He won another Emmy for his reporting revealing discriminatory membership practices of a private club operating on publicly owned property. 

Allen previously worked for WBAY in Wisconsin where he covered Steven Avery's release from prison and later his arrest for murder. He also worked for KTWO in Wyoming where the Associated Press recognized him for his reporting and anchoring.  

He is originally from California and a graduate of Trinity Christian College in Illinois.
