White House officials meeting to discuss next steps in Paul Whelan's case
Whelan is currently serving a 16-year sentence at a remote penal colony in Russia.

O'Keefe served as the lead correspondent for the Biden-Harris campaign and presidential transition. He also joined CBS News' hours-long coverage of the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the United States Capitol.
Since joining CBS News in April 2018, O'Keefe has contributed to coverage of the 2018 midterm elections, the contentious confirmation hearing for Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, the funerals of former president George H.W. Bush, former Arizona Senator John McCain and former Georgia Rep. John Lewis, the record-long 2019 federal government shutdown and the blackface and sexual misconduct scandals that rocked Virginia state government that same year.
O'Keefe previously spent more than a dozen years with The Washington Post covering Congress and presidential elections. He is a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and once served as one of the group's national vice presidents.

The current order of nominating contests is Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina.

"When people say things like elections are fraudulent and things of this nature, it's really a slapping indictment against America," said Philadelphia City Commissioner Omar Sabir.
Sen. Strom Thurmond of South Carolina famously staged one for 24 hours and 18 minutes — still the record — against civil rights legislation in 1957.
The Virginia governor is the latest potential 2024 Republican candidate to campaign in other states this midterm cycle.
A newly formed group will meet for the first time this week on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly in New York to try to force world leaders to address migration caused by climate change.
"As your president, I will fight for democracy with every fiber of my being, and I'm asking every American to join me," President Biden said.
Mr. Biden is likely to attend the city's famed Labor Day parade, one of the largest gatherings in the nation on the national holiday for workers.
They're targeting Black and Latino voters, two groups whose support for Biden has sagged in recent months.
Biden has visited South Carolina's Kiawah Island for years. He can "enjoy a certain amount of insulation without being totally insulated," said Biden political confidant Dick Harpootlian.
