Republican Rep. Mike Johnson of Louisiana won a vote Wednesday to become House speaker, ending a three-week vacancy.
Rep. Mike Johnson is the fourth speaker nominee since McCarthy's removal and the second in a single day. He said that his intention is to go the House floor Wednesday for a noon speaker vote.
In addition to leading the House of Representatives, the House speaker is second in line for the presidency.
"I'm still running for speaker and I plan to go to the floor and get the votes and win this race," Rep. Jim Jordan said Thursday.
All total, 22 Republicans voted against Rep. Jim Jordan on the second ballot.
Rep. Jim Jordan lost 20 Republicans to win just 200 votes, falling shy of the 217 needed to become speaker of the House.
The House has been without a speaker, who is second in line for the presidency, since Oct. 3, when Rep. Kevin McCarthy was ousted.
