China-U.S. relations hits new low

Diplomatic relations between the United States and China are the frostiest they've been in decades. Beijing is retaliating against the U.S. closure of the Chinese consulate in Houston by shuttering the equivalent American mission in Chengdu. Recently, the U.S. also arrested fours Chinese scientists for hiding their army ties on visa applications. Isaac Stone Fish, a senior fellow at the Asia Society's Center on U.S.-China Relations and a CBSN contributor, joins CBSN's Laura Podesta with analysis on the deterioriating situation.

Countries fear second coronavirus wave

Wuhan, where the coronavirus pandemic first began, is testing all 11 million residents after reporting six new cases over the weekend. The city lifted its 76-day lockdown in April. In South Korea’s capital of Seoul, over 2,000 bars and clubs were closed after a new cluster of COVID-19 cases were traced to the city’s entertainment district. Russia is also struggling as the number of reported cases falls just behind the U.S. Ramy Inocencio looks at how countries are battling the global pandemic.

News stories of a mysterious novel coronavirus outbreak spreading in Wuhan, China began appearing in America in early January. So, how did we get from those small but worrying early warnings to now, when our nation leads the world, not in managing the crisis, but in the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases and deaths?
