Duane "Keffe D" Davis, 60, has been charged with one count of murder with use of a deadly weapon with a gang enhancement.
Las Vegas police have arrested a man in connection with the 1996 murder of rapper Tupac Shakur. A grand jury indicted Duane Davis on one count of murder with a deadly weapon. Journalist Lena Nozizwe, who has followed the investigation on her podcast "Tupac's Murder Was His Case," joins CBS News to unpack Davis' relationship with Shakur.
Shakur was gunned down in 1996 while waiting at a red light near the Las Vegas Strip in a BMW driven by Death Row Records founder Marion "Suge" Knight.
Tupac wore the custom, self-designed ring during his final public appearance at the 1996 MTV Video Music Awards, a little over a week before his shooting death.
The rap legend wore the gold, ruby and diamond crown ring during his last public appearance in September 1996. He was shot to death days later.
Police are once again looking into the murder of rapper Tupac Shakur. Shakur was killed in a 1996 drive-by shooting in Las Vegas when he was 25. The cold case was recently reopened and last week police searched a Las Vegas home in connection to the murder. Lena Nozizwe, a journalist and the podcaster behind "Tupac's Murder Was His Case," joined CBS News to talk about the new developments.
The items were taken from the home of Duane Keith Davis, 60, in Henderson, Nevada.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department searched a home in Henderson, less than 20 miles from the Las Vegas Strip where Shakur was gunned down in 1996.
Shakur is one of only 12 rap artists, including Queen Latifah and Ice-T, who have received a star on the Walk of Fame.
Shakur's sister, Sekyiwa "Set" Shakur, will accept the honor on the artist's behalf on June 7 on Hollywood Boulevard.
