California mass shooter acted alone: police

Police in Southern California say the man behind the attack that killed at least 10 people and wounded another 10 during Lunar New Year celebrations was a 72-year-old who acted alone. They still don’t know his motive. Today is the first day that Americans can file their taxes. The deadline? April 18th. And the San Francisco 49ers punched their ticket to the NFC championship game against the Philadelphia Eagles by beating the Dallas Cowboys, 19 to 12.

Biden to get look at California storm damage

President Biden will survey the storm damage on California's Central Coast today. At least 20 people were killed in the “atmospheric river” storms. House lawmakers must agree on raising the national debt ceiling -- or the U.S. "could" default on its debt for the first time, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen warns. And New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is stepping down next month, after recent polls put her party "behind" its conservative rivals.

U.S. may aid Brazil congress attack probe

The U.S. and Brazil may work together to investigate Sunday's attack on Brazil's congress and other federal buildings. Reuters reports lawmakers from both countries signed a joint statement condemning political violence. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said "if" Brazil formally requests U.S. help, Washington would respond "expeditiously." Russia is sending a new capsule to the International Space Station next month to bring home three crew members, including an American. The original capsule was damaged by a meteoroid in December. And tennis champ Naomi Osaka says she's pregnant.

Biden "surprised" by documents discovery

President Biden says he was "surprised" documents marked classified were found at a former office. He said his attorneys "followed protocol" by reporting the discovery right away. The DOJ is investigating. Australian Cardinal George Pell whose conviction on child abuse charges was later overturned — has died at 81 after hip surgery in Rome. And the Golden Globes were back on the airwaves — and "The Fabelmans" took home the award for best drama motion picture.
