Negotiations slow on police reform

Negotiations are stalling in the Senate as lawmakers try to strike a deal on a police reform bill. The House passed the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act early this year. It is now being debated in the Senate, but there is disagreement on two key provisions. The first involves qualified immunity, which shields officers from civil lawsuits over constitutional violations. The second is over prosecuting police misconduct. U.S. marks 1 year since death of George Floyd

Tuesday marks one year since George Floyd was killed by former Minneapolis Police officer Derek Chauvin. His death sparked worldwide protests over police brutality and racial injustice. President Biden had hoped to mark the day by signing a police reform bill, but lawmakers continue to negotiate the terms of the legislation. Biden meets with George Floyd's family

Family members of George Floyd met with President Biden, Vice President Harris and top lawmakers on the anniversary of his killing to continue pushing for police reform.
