NY sees flattening curve but spike in deaths

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo expressed optimism that the state was "bending the curve" of the coronavirus, although it is still battling the worst effects of the virus with 779 deaths in one day, including the 15th NYPD officer to die of the illness. In Chicago, overburdened hospitals dealing with coronavirus patients also have to contend with the city's gun violence, with seven people shot to death on Tuesday. David Begnaud updates "CBS This Morning" on the latest in the U.S.'s battle against the pandemic.

Chicago doctor on why pandemic "scares" him

"I deal with gunshots every day and trauma and crazy stuff and this is the only thing that scares me," said emergency room doctor, Dr. Scott Samlan. He and his colleagues at Mount Sinai Hospital on Chicago's west side have been on the front lines battling the coronavirus pandemic with the limited supplies they have, even being forced to make their own masks to make up for the supply shortage. He speaks to David Begnaud about the struggles he and his fellow colleagues are facing as the crisis deepens.
