New Year’s celebrations are underway, as fireworks lit up the sky above Auckland, New Zealand when 2016 arrived. Security is also higher than usual across Europe due to fears of terrorism. Brussels even called off its New Year’s Eve fireworks show, as Belgian prosecutors announced six people were detained in connection with a plot to attack the celebrations. Elizabeth Palmer reports.

The man was arrested Thursday in Brussels and was not identified, but was charged with terrorist attacks and taking part in the activities of a terrorist group. Belgium now has six people still in police custody, all under suspicion of involvement in terrorist activity related to the Paris attacks. Debora Patta reports from Brussels.
