Israel advances into Gaza amid U.S. aid talks

The Israel-Hamas war continues after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected calls Monday for an immediate cease-fire. In the U.S., Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin testified before the Senate appropriations committee about the Biden administration's requests for aid for Israel and Ukraine. Blinken: Released American hostages in Israel

Two U.S. hostages, a mother and a daughter from suburban Chicago, were released by the Hamas militant group on Friday, officials announced. The freed hostages were identified as Judith and Natalie Raanan, according to a spokesperson for the Israeli prime minister's office. Secretary of State Antony Blinken took questions from reporters at the State Department about the hostage release. Following the briefing, CBS News correspondent Christina Ruffini had more on efforts to release other hostages.

Biden cancels plans amid Israel-Hamas war

President Biden has canceled a planned trip to Colorado Monday and will stay in Washington, D.C., amid the Israeli-Hamas war. Secretary of State Antony Blinken continued to criss-cross the Middle East working to ensure safe passage for Americans to leave Gaza, secure the release of hostages held by Hamas and keep the war from spreading. The White House also appointed a special envoy for Middle East humanitarian issues to focus on getting humanitarian aid to Palestinians.
