Addressing the rise in suicide

The recent suicides of celebrities Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain only hint at the dimensions of this increasing public health crisis. Tony Dokoupil visits the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, and talks with a woman who attempted suicide at age 19 about her empathy for the victims of suicide. He also discusses the public health ramifications of suicide with Dr. Jeffrey Lieberman, chair of Columbia University's psychiatry department, and with Mike Shinoda, of the band Linkin Park, who last year lost his friend and bandmate Chester Bennington to suicide.

How to spot suicide risk factors

The world experienced a double shock this week with word that two famous names had taken their own lives. Fashion designer Kate Spade was found dead in her New York City residence on Tuesday and on Friday the body of celebrity chef and author Anthony Bourdain was discovered in his hotel room in France. The deaths come as the Centers for Disease Control published a study showing suicide rates in the U.S. are on the rise in almost every state. Psychiatrist Dr. Gail Saltz joins “CBS This Morning: Saturday” to discuss suicide risk factors and how to approach someone you are worried about.

From 2007: Anthony Bourdain, the culinary bad boy

In a story which originally aired on "Sunday Morning" on September 30, 2007, correspondent Lesley Stahl profiles the celebrity chef and host of "No Reservations" Anthony Bourdain, whose adventurous spirit has led him to far-flung lands to sample some of the world's most exotic foods. Stahl also talked with Bourdain's mother, Gladys, whose cooking – and an oyster her son sampled in France at age 10 - inspired young Anthony to pursue a life in the kitchen.

Anthony Bourdain & Chef James Syhabout

When he was young, chef James Syhabout fled Laos with his family after it fell to communists in 1975. They arrived in Oakland six years later, and Syhabout went on to become the force behind the two-Michelin starred restaurant, Commis. Its sister eatery, Hawker Fare, focuses on the Laotian cuisine of his childhood. Syhabout is now out with a new book called "Hawker Fare: Stories & Recipes from a Refugee Chef's Isan Thai & Lao Roots," published by Anthony Bourdain's book imprint. Syhabout and Bourdain join "CBS This Morning" to discuss the stories behind the dishes in the book.
