Young Phillies Fan Severely Hurt In Hit & Run After Giants Game
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - A 9-year-old boy who had just attended the baseball game between the Philadelphia Phillies and the San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park Thursday night was hit in a downtown San Francisco intersection by a truck which then drove away.
Ryan White, in town with his family from Philadelphia, was walking in a crosswalk with a relative when he was hit by a white pick-up truck at Mission and New Montgomery streets around 10:30 p.m., said Sgt. Michael Andraychak.
The truck had turned left onto Mission Street after driving north on New Montgomery Street, which is a one-way street with traffic only in the southbound direction, police said. Witnesses said the truck hit several other cars on Mission Street as it sped away.

Hayward police stopped a white Toyota pickup truck, similar to the truck described in a hit-and-run accident 10:30 p.m. The driver, later identified as Andrew Vargas, 21, was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and driving under the influence, San Francisco police Lt. Troy Dangerfield said.

San Francisco police transported numerous witnesses to Hayward where they viewed and identified the truck as the one involved in the hit-and-run.
Witnesses brought to the scene San Francisco police identified him and his truck as those involved in the hit-and-run, and a preliminary screening indicated that his blood alcohol level was over the legal limit, Dangerfield said.
Vargas has been turned over to San Francisco police, and his truck was impounded as evidence.
Hooten, an uncle who lives in Granite Bay north of Sacramento, said the family outing to AT&T Park for the first game of the Giants series against the Phillies was supposed to be the highlight of the trip for White and his 11-year-old brother, both huge fans of their hometown team.
"They were looking forward to it. They had their Phillies hats that they were all the time, and they were talking about the game," he said.
The boys and their parents were at the game with an aunt and a cousin.
Hooten said the text messages he's been getting all night indicate his nephew suffered a broken pelvis and other injuries.
Doctors at San Francisco General are still evaluating his condition.
A 58-year-old woman from Granite Bay also suffered a foot injury in the crash but the injury is not considered life-threatening, police said.
