San Jose Teen Bicyclist Killed In Crash On Way To School
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) - A teenager riding a bicycle on his way to school was killed in a collision with a vehicle Monday morning in San Jose, a police spokesman said.
The bicyclist was a 16-year-old sophomore at Silver Creek High School.
The collision was reported at 7:36 a.m. in the area of East Capitol Expressway and Silver Creek Road - near Silver Creek High School, San Jose police Officer Albert Morales said.
Police Sgt. Jason Dwyer said the teen, who was not wearing a helmet, was riding east on East Capitol Expressway in a crosswalk when he was struck by a white pickup truck traveling north on Silver Creek.
Emergency responders performed CPR on the teen at the scene, then transported him to a hospital, where he died at 8:10 a.m., police said..
The cause of the collision remainedunder investigation. The driver remained at the scene and, according to police, was cooperating with the investigation.

"We don't have any indication of fault at this time," Morales told KCBS."
Silver Creek principal Adolfo Laguna said counselors were at the school Monday to help students cope. "We have notified the staff, we've notified them that additional grief counselors are here on campus to support them and the students who knew him and are having a difficult time with this news," said Laguna.
This is the beginning of finals week at the high school.
