Young Bobcat Released Into Wild Months After Being Run Over In San Jose
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) - Nearly five months after being hit by a car in San Jose a juvenile bobcat was set for release back into the wild Tuesday.
The cat had been recovering at the Wildlife Center of Silicon Valley since undergoing surgery to implant a metal plate to support a broken femur, which the animal will carry with it into the wild.
The bobcat was originally hesitant to put weight on the leg, caregivers tracked recovery by camera and determined that it had recovered enough strength to return to nature.
"It's not every day that we get to witness the release of a predatory mammal such as this Bobcat. We really hope this cat will continue to thrive in her release environment and successfully live out her life where she belongs—in the wild," said Janet Alexander, Director of Operations at WCSV.
The bobcat was set to be released at 5:30 p.m. at Joseph D. Grant County Park.
