Yahoo Hosts Job Conference For Wounded Vets
SUNNYVALE (KCBS) -- The Wounded Warrior Workforce Conference was hosted by Yahoo on Friday. It gave more than 75 veterans a chance to connect with dozens of employers. The event was held in order to help wounded vets make a successful transition to the civilian workforce.
Jerry Hoffman, who served in the army, said he's had a tough time trying to land a construction job.
"It's real tight. It's slim pickings out there. Construction's real slow. I'm trying to be real open and flexible," said the Hoffman.
Others including Air Force Vet Stan Orlowski was looking for something IT related since he felt qualified within that field.
KCBS' Mike Colgan Reports:
Grant Bassett, Yahoo's VP of talent acquisition, said that the job fair dovetails well with the company's philosophy.
"It's the right thing. These are talented people that have made a commitment and a sacrifice to our country", Bassett added that the company feels they owe it to the vets to help them have a chance to get "great quality jobs".
