D-Day 70th Anniversary: The Beginning Of The End Of WWII
(CBS SF) -- Friday marks the 70th anniversary of the Allied invasion of Normandy, known as D-Day, the largest seaborne invasion in history.
On June 6, 1944, Allied powers crossed the English Channel and landed at Normandy, France to begin the liberation of Western Europe from its Nazi control during World War II. In its most simplistic description, it was the beginning of the end of the war.
President Barack Obama and other world leaders and dignitaries will gather at Sword Beach Friday to honor the veterans who fought to defeat Adolf Hitler's Third Reich.
CBS San Francisco will stream live coverage of President Obama delivering remarks on the anniversary from Normandy Friday.
