Workers Test New Electronic Toll System On Golden Gate Bridge
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – Workers at the Golden Gate Bridge have started to test the all new all-electronic toll collection system, which will be introduced to the public in March.
Gone will be human toll collectors, replaced by cameras and sensors. During this testing phase, drivers won't notice anything different from when they normally cross the span.

Golden Gate Bridge Highway and Transportation District spokesperson Mary Currie said that this will be a two month dry run for the new system.
"We've got big changes coming at the Golden Gate Bridge," Currie said. "We're testing the cameras that are capturing license plates. We're testing a one time payment."
The new tolling system will still include FasTrak, but also three new pay-by-plate options. Drivers can set up a license plate account where they are charged each time they cross the span. They can also set up a one-time payment where they pay in advance or can be sent an invoice after a picture is snapped of their license plate.
Bridge district officials said that cars won't have to stop at the Toll Plaza once the new system is fully implemented, easing congestion.
March 27 has been set as the tentative date for toll takers to be taken off the Golden Gate Bridge permanently.
