Worker Killed At Construction Site Of New 49ers Stadium
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - A man was killed Monday morning in an industrial accident at the Levi Stadium construction site—the second work-related death at the future home of the San Francisco 49ers.
The accident at the Levi's Stadium construction site occurred around 6:30 a.m. Monday, according to an email from construction team Turner/Devcon.
"A material delivery truck driver was severely injured while materials were being unloaded from his truck. Emergency services were called and the driver was transported to a local hospital. We are deeply saddened to confirm that the driver has passed away as a result of his injuries," read the email.

The victim, an employee of Gerdau Ameristeel, a subcontractor for the stadium project, was killed when a bundle of rebar fell on him, Cal/OSHA spokesman Peter Melton said. He was identified by the medical examiner's office as 60-year-old Edward Erving Lake Jr., of Vacaville.
Santa Clara Police, the fire department and Cal-OSHA all conducted separate investigations of the death, which was deemed an accident and not criminal in nature by both police and fire.
Meanwhile, Turner/Devcon said Cal-OSHA's investigation could take months to complete, but they did say the work site was safe and permitted to reopen. Work on the construction site will resume on Tuesday.
Turner-Devcon stadium project co-director Jonathan Harvey said workers are still grappling with news of the death.
"I think at first it was shock, and then it was tragic," Harvey said. "We had a fellow coworker lose their life."
Harvey said Turner-Devcon will meet with workers to discuss the incident.
"We will have proper support systems in place to assist them in dealing with their emotions following this tragedy," Harvey said.
The 49ers said their "sincerest thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and co-workers affected by this tragedy."
The stadium is scheduled to be finished by July 2014. An elevator mechanic, 63-year-old Donald White, was killed at the construction site in June when he was struck by a counterweight while working in a shaft.
