Worker Fatally Crushed By Machine At Bay Point Plant
BAY POINT (CBS SF) -- An Antioch man died after he was crushed by an industrial mixer at a manufacturing plant in Bay Point on Monday, authorities said Tuesday.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the Henkel Corporation building at 2850 Willow Pass Road around 11:20 a.m. on reports of a person injured by machinery, Contra Costa Fire Protection District spokesman Steve Aubert said.
Crews transported the man to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where he died from his injuries. A coroner's deputy identified him Tuesday as 26-year-old David Eleidjan.
The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health, or Cal/OSHA, is conducting an investigation into the incident.
So far investigators have learned that Eleidjan became caught in an industrial mixer machine that crushed and amputated his legs, Cal/OSHA spokeswoman Erika Monterroza said.
The 26-year-old had been hired by Tennessee-based staffing company HRComp to work temporarily for Henkel, she said.
Cal/OSHA, which was notified of the fatal incident around 11:40 a.m. Monday, has launched a dual investigation into both employers.
Monterroza said the investigation could take up to six months to complete and will involve interviewing witnesses and examining company safety practices.
