Woman Stabbed In San Jose; Warrant Issued For Husband
SAN JOSE (BCN) - Police Tuesday released the name and a photo of a man who allegedly stabbed his wife Saturday afternoon and might be trying to flee the area and possibly the country.
Tewolde Welejeworgs Haileslassie, 41, is wanted in connection with the stabbing, which occurred at about 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the couple's home in the 700 block of Piercy Road, police said.
Officers responded to a report of a 30-year-old woman who arrived on her neighbor's doorstep bleeding from stab wounds, San Jose police Sgt. Ronnie Lopez said.
The victim was apparently stabbed, and then bound and continuously assaulted by her husband, Haileslassie, police said.
The woman was taken to a local hospital to be treated for injuries that were severe but not believed to be life-threatening, Lopez said.
Police initially thought Haileslassie had barricaded himself and the couple's three children inside the Piercy Road home, but after surrounding the home for nearly two hours Saturday, they determined he was not home, and the children were safe elsewhere with the woman's mother.
Haileslassie apparently fled in a silver or gray 2009 Toyota Sienna minivan with California license plate No. 6NMJ756.
His whereabouts are unknown, but he planned to flee the area and possibly the country, according to police.
Police did not release Haileslassie's name immediately after the stabbing because they said they were still following leads in the case.
A warrant has been issued for Haileslassie's arrest on charges of attempted murder, false imprisonment, and domestic violence.
