Woman Shoots 93-Year-Old Mother, Then Herself In SF Convalescent Home
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A 60-year-old woman shot her 93-year-old mother and then herself in an apparent murder-suicide at a convalescent home in San Francisco's Western Addition neighborhood on Monday evening, a police spokesman said Tuesday.
The pair was discovered at about 8:15 p.m. inside the Central Gardens skilled nursing facility at 1355 Ellis St.
The 60-year-old woman came to the facility to visit her mother at about 5:30 p.m. Monday, police Officer Gordon Shyy said.
Staff went to check up on the pair and discovered that they had both suffered gunshot wounds. The women were pronounced dead at the scene, Shyy said.
Shyy said it appears the daughter shot her mother before turning the gun on herself.
The door to the mother's room had been closed during the visit, and staff members were "not aware of anything that was wrong," he said.
An employee at Central Gardens who did not provide her name said Tuesday morning that "everyone here is OK, it was an isolated incident."
The names of the mother and daughter are not yet being released by the medical examiner's office.
