Woman Sexually Assaulted, Beaten Near Lake Merritt
OAKLAND (BCN) - A woman reported being sexually assaulted and beaten at an apartment complex near Oakland's Lake Merritt on Monday night, police said.
The attack happened at an apartment complex in the 800 block of Jackson Street as the woman was returning home at about 10 p.m., police said.
The suspect is described as a black man with a medium complexion standing about 6 feet tall. He was casually dressed in a dark, long-sleeve shirt and a dark cap.
Officers from the Police Department's Special Victims Unit are investigating the incident.
Police are reminding residents to keep themselves safe by staying in well-lighted and populated areas, being especially alert when getting into and out of cars, and avoiding becoming distracted by cell phones or other electronic devices.
