Woman Killed In San Jose House Fire, Another Resident Missing
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- A woman was killed in a three-alarm house fire in San Jose driven by heavy winds Monday night, a fire captain said.
The fire was reported at 8:27 p.m. at 927 S. Daniel Way, near state Highway 17, and firefighters arriving found a fully-involved fire with heavy smoke and fire coming from the front of the house, Capt. Rob Brown said.
There were concerns that the home's residents may still be inside, so fire crews made a rescue attempt and found one elderly woman inside. She was taken out and crews attempted to resuscitate her, but she succumbed to her injuries.
Another of the home's residents remains unaccounted for, Brown said.
Firefighters told KPIX 5 the situation remained too dangerous to go inside the home to look as of late Monday night.
Windy conditions Monday night made the fire difficult to fight, according to firefighters. While embers were flying onto neighbors' roofs, firefighters said the blaze did not spread to other homes Monday night.
