Woman Fatally Stabbed Near Santa Clara County Government Building
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- A yard-to-yard search shortly after a fatal stabbing Friday afternoon near Santa Clara County's main government building in San Jose failed to turn up a suspect, police said.
The stabbing was reported at 2:37 p.m. in the 900 block of North First Street at West Hedding Street, just east of the County Government Center at 70 W. Hedding St., police spokesman Sgt. Jason Dwyer said.
The victim, a 29-year-old woman who was stabbed multiple times, was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead at 3:15 p.m., Dwyer said.
The stabbing took place in a parking lot outside of an apartment complex. Dwyer said investigators did not yet know the motive for the killing.
The male suspect fled and jumped a fence into a neighborhood. Police shut down nearby streets and searched yard-to yard until tonight but were unable to locate the suspect.
Staff at Burnett Middle School, located at 850 North Second Street, were put on lockdown during the search, school officials said. Students at the school were already released for the day at 2 p.m.
The woman's identity has not been released pending notification of her next of kin. Her death is San Jose's 10th homicide of 2013.
